S2_3 strings frozen for 2.3.1 release next weekend

OK, I'm calling it: strings are now frozen on the S2_3 branch, in
preparation for a 2.3.1 release next weekend (18-20 November).

I'll be aiming to make the release as early in the weekend as I can, to
give the packagers the best chance to produce Windows/Mac binaries.
Translators (and coders) should assume they need to aim for Friday
afternoon.

Preliminary NEWS for 2.3.1 is at <http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/NEWS-2.3.1>
(subject to change, of course).

(For the avoidance of doubt: strings on S2_4 are definitely _not_
frozen, for those working there.)

Here are the current translation stats for the head of S2_3 (r20536):

ca: >99.9%: 6293 translated, 1 fuzzy, 2 untranslated.
fr: 99.9%: 6290 translated, 3 fuzzy, 3 untranslated.
gd: 99.9%: 6290 translated, 4 fuzzy, 2 untranslated.
es: 99.9%: 6290 translated, 3 fuzzy, 3 untranslated.
pl: 99.7%: 6280 translated, 13 fuzzy, 3 untranslated.
da: 95%: 5968 translated, 195 fuzzy, 133 untranslated.
fi: 85%: 5325 translated, 699 fuzzy, 272 untranslated.
uk: 82%: 5133 translated, 527 fuzzy, 636 untranslated.
it: 73%: 4596 translated, 1136 fuzzy, 564 untranslated.
ja: 69%: 4375 translated, 1329 fuzzy, 592 untranslated.
pt_BR: 69%: 4348 translated, 1374 fuzzy, 574 untranslated.
ru: 68%: 4284 translated, 1359 fuzzy, 653 untranslated.
sv: 59%: 3721 translated, 1433 fuzzy, 1142 untranslated.
ga: 55%: 3447 translated, 60 fuzzy, 2789 untranslated.

 Updated S2_3 po-files now at http://www.cazfi.net/freeciv/translations/S2_3/

Since there has been some confusion in the past, I now remind
translators that string freeze is for your benefit, not against you.
It's original English strings that are now frozen, not translations.
You can, and are urged to, update your translation. With string freeze
you know exactly what should be translated for next release.

I also updated those at http://www.cazfi.net/freeciv/translations/S2_4/

btw. ca.po has been updated several times in trunk since S2_4 was
branched, but same translations have not been committed to S2_4. Is
that intentional?

Hi everyone !

Please find here attached the updated French translation for the 2.3 branch (including the 'allowtake' option I missed last time - thanks Jacob for seeing that :-) ).

Could someone commit this for me, please ?

Regards,

Done for gd, file is at http://www.akerbeltz.org/gd.rar

The link to the ChangeLog isn't working (not for me anyway). Did we make
any headway on a more user-friendly approach to the language choice
issue? I don't see anything on the short list but perhaps there's
something in the ChangeLog?

Cheers

Michael

The ChangeLog wouldn't be up to date yet anyway, but it seems there's a
more fundamental problem. Thanks for pointing it out.

Not as far as I know. Really, I think this belongs in the installer --
it could prompt you to choose a language on installation -- but doing
anything with that is in the hands of the Windows maintainer, Christian,
as the installer material isn't in version control. I'm afraid I haven't
had the presence of mind to ask him about it, and it's probably too late
for 2.3.1 (again), unless he's quietly done something about it already.

Oh sugar :( It's a problem for Mac too if I remember rightly. Maybe for
2.3.2?

I've raised <http://gna.org/bugs/?19019> about the suggestion for
Windows, in the hope that we won't lose it again.

(I haven't raised a similar suggestion for Mac, as unlike Windows, I
don't know enough about that platform, and its own language support that
we might be fighting against, to even make a suggestion as to what a
solution should look like.)
