Guinness World Record Attempt
Hi All For those who don't know about the upcoming world record attempt in Australia. We do not want to clog up this group with tons of conversation about the upcoming world record attempt. We have therefore started a Facebook event where there are already about 60 people "attending". If you would like to follow and/or contribute in any way please go to https://www.facebook.com/events/177573095701554/ and click on ATTENDING . You will then be able to view as well as comment on any of the conversations already going on or even start new ones. If you do join the event please also invite all your Scrabble friends to do the same (those already invited will be greyed out so they won't receive the invite twice) We will be trying to get some outside publicity for Youth Scrabble and having a very active social media presence will help us to convince other channels to give us coverage. We will post a few important updates here as we get closer to the attempt - for instance how you will be able to follow the event live by both video stream and website with live scoreboard and countdown to the record. The attempt will take place from about 08h30 on Thursday 5th July until the same time on the 6th July at my house in East Killara ( 5 weeks from now). All are welcome to pop in for a cup of coffee and to offer moral support or to come and help in some way - annotating games etc. The record that will be attempted is : The most points scored by two players playing Scrabble for a 24 hour period. The players attempting this will be Alastair Richards and Michael McKenna (Currently rated number 2 and 18 in Australia respectively and known for their ability to play fast games) From the current Guinness book of world records : ‎"The record for the highest Scrabble score achieved in 24 hours by two players is 162,171 and is held by Chris Hawkins and Austin Shin (both UK). The attempt took place in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, UK on 17-18 August 2002. "(Continue reading)
