The Haskell Common Architecture for Building Applications and Libraries: a
framework defining a common interface for authors to more easily build their
Haskell applications in a portable way.

The Haskell Cabal is meant to be a part of a larger infrastructure for
distributing, organizing, and cataloging Haskell libraries and tools.

Whoa, take it a bit slower.  I'm certainly not opposed to having a
newer version of cabal packaged than what's included with ghc6, but
have you fully thought about the implications of having two versions
of it in Debian?

Preferrably there would be only one version of Cabal around in Debian,
even if the versions could coexist benignly.  But that change would
happen only after 6.10.x is packaged, at earliest.  I suspect that
getting ghc's upstream to include a newer version (if needed) might be
the cleaner solution all around...  Generally, Cabal is a central
enough piece of the Haskell ecosystem to warrant rather close
attention from me, in the role of ghc6's maintainer.  I don't know
about how this would affect hugs' side of things.

On a related note, there's still a bunch of old bugs left open on
http://bugs.debian.org/libghc6-cabal-dev from the time when it last
used to be an independent package.  Anyone up for a bit of triaging?
