Alix 3d3 - i2c doesn't work in voyage 8.5

I can't get the i2c working on my alix 3d3 board after upgrade to voyage 8.5. 
The i2c device is listed when I invoke cat /proc/devices but there is no 
/dev/i2c-0 node created. 
I've tried almost everything but only installing voyage 8.0 helps.
