'Linux Documentation Project (LDP) FAQ' international

Hi!

I'm willing to translate page located at http://tldp.org/FAQ/LDP-FAQ/ to 
the Belorussian language (my mother tongue). What I'm asking for is your 
written permission, so you don't mind after I'll post the translation to 
my blog. The translation is intended only for web, no print copies planned.

Visitors of your website, who come from Minsk (Belorussia) will be the 
ones, who will read this blogpost, that's the only way to spread them, 
no additional instruments we can use. Every translation we ever do does 
not costs a penny for the webpage, which is translated. All we ask is to 
link back in whatever way you feel confident about it.

You can leave a voice message and I will call you back, if you prefer a 
call instead of emails. Do you prefer email or IM for contact (if any 
questions regarding the translation arise)? What instant messaging 
client (if any) do you use? AIM, MSN, Skype?

Thanks for you offer. Feel free to translate this page, the only 
condition we have is that you don't add any advertisement on the web page.

We can also host this page on the wiki (wiki.tldp.org) or/and make a 
link to it from out translated projects page

As you may or may not realise, this is a scam, to which I've assigned
the name 'juice farming':  The way it works is that they find
English-language sites on the Web with relatively high Google Page Rank
('Google juice'), and offer to post a translation of that site's pages
into Belarussian.  A few days later, they provide you the URL of a page
that's entirely in Belarussian, and _claim_ they've put a Belarussian
translation of your page their, and request that you link to it from
your site.  

The reason it's a scam is that there is no actual Belarussian
translation at the indicated URL:  They rely on the fact that very few
English-speaking technical people also are able to read Belarussian.
They are thus able to greatly increase the Google Page Rank (or Alexa
rating, or whatever you want to call it) without actually providing the
claimed service.

This page seems to be out-of-date and my first thought was: why would
anyone want to translate it?  Only the best and most up-to-date docs
deserve translation.  LDP has links to translation projects
(some/most of which are likely dead) but not to translations.  So
while anyone is free to translate it, LDP should not link to the
translation.  Thus even if it wasn't a scam, LDP shouldn't link to it.
And it looks like it we don't link, Alyona Lompar will not translate
it which is no loss to LDP.

It's all about Page Rank.

About three months ago, I received a similar message about translating 
the Esperanto FAQ, which I used to maintain, to Bielorussian. I agreed 
with their request, but never heard more.
