Fail on restore

Greetings!

I know and install Mondo Rescue 2 days ago after find out Clonez*lla can not backup a LVM (LVM2 ?) partition as I'm using a software RAID 1 (Mirror) on CentOS. After some "tweak" and many time of Mindi error (can not create data+boot disks" I manage to get it backup my full CentOS system (yeahh :))

Now my question is on the restore part.

I have 2 Dell PC that almost identic in hardware spec, same model, also with built-in RAID. One is running CentOS that I already got it backup with Mondo Rescue. One is a target machine that I'm trying to restore to.

When I restore it on the second dell machine using the first ISO CD created by Mondo Rescue, it can not run on nuke mode because it can not find a partition or something like that (I am not remember exactly) so it switch to Interactive mode. After display partition layout (from source machine), I go with the restore process but it can not continue because failed on create (or format) the partition.

Should I install CentOS first on the target machine before doing a full restore? I'm going to try it again today.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Best regards,
Anam.

Re: Fail on restore

Hello,

No, if you backuped the full CentOS, you don’t have to install CentOS first on the target machine before doing a full restore.

To check what’s happening at restore time, Alt-F8 allows you to switch to a "tail -f /var/log/mondorestore.log".

Alt-F2 (Alt-F3... Alt-F6) allows to switch to a busybox shell.

Alt-F1 allows to return to mondorestore GUI screen.

If necessary, in expert mode or within a shell, you should be able to create and format the partitions manually, and then restore.

Be sure to use the latest version, from ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org :

mondo-3.0.2

mindi-2.1.2

mindi-busybox-1.18.5

Some helpful docs :

Rgds.
