Yeah, I read that, but I don't have the mondoscript.sh file anywhere..
Though I'm also not clear what you mean by "deploy server" - what server
?

Nor do I have a /usr/sbin/mindi directory

Did you had the Virtual media mounted at that time ?
If not, or if you don't use FORCE_MODS, mindi won't include the USB CD
drivers needed at restore time.

Another victim of that bug:
http://trac.mondorescue.org/ticket/172

Downgrade your kernel is the only known solution.

Re: Restore to VMware

Ok,

I backed out to an older kernel, as per the bug report. And it least
booting into the rescue image CD works ok now..

Still have my original problem in that /dev/sda doesn't exist.

However, I've tried to create a new VM machine, then install a fresh
linux install, but that too also complains about no hard disks being
there. Seems ok when I use IDE drivers though... Odd.. Will sort that
one first before continuing with Mondo...

Re: Restore to VMware

Oops.. Hit enter too soon..

http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=685874&#685874

So - I'm currently restoring an image using those extra FORCEMODS
parameters. I'm going to also run it again and see if I actually needed
them.. But if I do, will leaving those in cause any problems for normal
hardware<>hardware restores? Should I use a separate mindi file for
creating VMware machine tests vs normal backups?

Re: Restore to VMware

Ok, so I think this is new:

I'm able to mount /dev/sda and run the restore using the FORCE_MODS
change. Afterwards, the VM starts up, but gives the below crash:

Loading libata.ko Module
Loading ata_piix.ko Module
Loading dM-Mod.ko Module
device-Mapper: 4.5.0-ioctl (2005-10-04) initialised: dM-devel <at> redhat.coM
Loading jbd.ko Module
Loading ext3.ko Module
Loading dM-Mirror.ko Module
Loading dM-zero.ko Module
Loading dM-snapshot.ko Module
Making device-Mapper control node
Scanning logical voluMes
Reading all physical voluMes. This ay take a while... No voluMe groups
found
Activating logical voluMes
VoluMe group "VolGroupOO" not found
ERROR: /bin/lvM exited abnorMally? (pid 307) Creating root device
Mounting root filesysteM Mount: error B Mounting ext3 Mount: error 2
Mounting none Switching to new root switchroot: Mount failed: 22 uMount
/initrd/dev failed: 2
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init?

Obviously something about lvm that's screwing up. Heres my original
mountlist:

/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 on / type ext3 (rw)

Re: Restore to VMware

Hi Bruno,

Log files from where - the restore ??
I've tried it with 2.2.4, and get the same results.
