I haven't specified any particular compiler, so as you said, the package
is a 32-bit binary.
Do you want me to build the same pkg with the `hppa64-linux-gcc' and
provide it to you all?
Or is it enough for the Debian purpose to have the 32-bit binary?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

I appreciate any comment or critic on the mc pkg; Ludovic Drolez asked to
co-maintain the pkg for x86. Is it the case to have also an `official' uploader for hppa?

Thank you in advance

32-bit is sufficient right now - thanks.

64-bit user space isn't working (yet).

Sorry - I don't understand the question - someone else will likely
have to answer anyway.

thanks,

As Grant said, there is no support for 64-bit userspace yet; only 32-bit.
A 64-bit build of mc wouldn't run on any parisc-linux machine.

It's certainly possible to do that, but the normal case is to upload on
one architecture and let the buildds for the other architectures chew
on it.

As Grant said there is NO 64bit userland on parisc. 64bit binaries are
pointless (besides you're going to have hard time building any,
provided there is no 64bit glibc :-P).

That's not true in general. It might be true to mc.

I meant that it was pointless in context: "on parisc, given we don't have
support for a 64bit userland (yet), and obviously considering we were
talking about mc" ;)

Of course it wasn't meant to be a general statement toward 64bit binaries
:)

And afaik its pdc allow to boot either a 64bit kernel or a 32bit one :-)

But we haven't yet 64bit user env available (iirc in the todo list of Carlos)

Hi Joel,

you are perfectly right, in fact I use 2.4.27-32 and 2.6.8-2-64 kernel images
on it. My question addresses to the need of a 64-bit and 32-bit to make the
deb available on hppa system: is it possible to run mc (32-bit) on N-class
(surely 64-bit), for instance, system?

Please read the FAQ
http://www.parisc-linux.org/faq/

And guess what, if you can boot the same 32bit userland on both the
kernels you mentioned above, that might be a clue that 32bit userland
*works* with 64bit kernel, huh? ;)
OTOH, if that wasn't the case, I wonder what 64bit kernel would be
used for...

Once and for all: there is no need for 64bit userland binaries and you
can't build them anyway.
