Adding Fonts to Libre Office

   I downloaded, built, and installed LO from the SlackBuilds.org site
(version 3.3.2), specified sharing with the existing OO.o, and used it for a
letter. Not all fonts on the system (which are available to OO.o) show up as
available to LO. My Google searches have found ubuntu references but nothing
I've seen that looks applicable to Slackware.

   Can someone point me to a source of information how to make all fonts on
the system available to LO?

This is impossible ... Each font in OOO must be in LO.
For testing install a new font(use KDE font installer) and try to use font in LO.

   I would have agreed with you before installing LO and using it.

available in the drop-down list of typefaces in LO. That list starts with
Bitstream Charter.

list, but the number of typefaces available in LO is much less than those
I've installed and used in OO.o over the years.

I have installed LO too ... but all fonts in my slackware appear in drop-down list.
reinstall LO ... or open one of the files that you written in OOO by LO and check fonts.

Did you tried to add the fonts[copy or symlink] to your .fonts directory 
on your home folder?

   What fonts? There's nothing about the application in my home directory;
fonts are in /usr/share/ and the various subdirectories.

Some apps uses the fonts on your home folder, and you can add more fonts 
on that folder, if not exist, create it...

Chmod the folder to 755 and it´s done! Copy the fonts to that folder, 
and chmod fonts too.
For example the fonts that wine uses for his magnificent job, and the 
fonts that I use in gimp for my web designs are there too. And works for 
me in all the system...
