12.04 [Print Screen] key not prompting for file location anymore

	Upgraded to 12.04 the other day. Now when I hit the [Print Screen] key,
it takes the screenshot; but instead of prompting for where to put the
picture, it just defaults to the Pictures folder.
	Searching around the interweb turns up nothing. Any pointers?

Seems to be a new GNOME 3.4 feature. I've found the gsettings key to change
the location, but I haven't found a way to have it pop up a save as
dialog.

(The key is org.gnome.gnome-screenshot.auto-save-directory BTW.)

Thanks. I wonder if leaving that blank would force a prompt?

Hmmm, mine seems to be already empty:

AFAIU blank means 'use the Pictures folder' (which can be translated
into your native language etc.).

Have you tried http://askubuntu.com? Or asking on IRC -- the GNOME
people seem to gather mostly on irc.gnome.org, judging from the low rate
of questions and (sadly even lower rate of) answers I see on
irc.freenode.org's #gnome channel.

Hm…

How do you change this?

I used to have this:

$ gsettings get org.gnome.gnome-screenshot auto-save-directory
''

When I pressed <Print Screen>, a screenshot was saved in my
~/Bilder directory.

Now I to change the setting:

$ gsettings set org.gnome.gnome-screenshot auto-save-directory
~/Dropbox/Photos/Screenshots/
$ gsettings get org.gnome.gnome-screenshot auto-save-directory

	Good point. I'm not a programmer, nor am I in the Ubuntu devel team, so
I can't say exactly. Inferred that it seems to be something with the
Gnome package that Ubuntu provides. one way to prove that is to install
Gnome fresh from Gnome themselves, I guess.
	Sound liek an interesting challenge. I just may have to try it....

you just need to download the gnome-screenshot package and take a look
at the mentioned patch ... it makes the app check if XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP
is set to "Unity" ...

if you can make sure that every time gnome-screenshot is called
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity is exported to the apps environment, it should
work under any desktop as desired ...

Probably different shortcut key combos. I'm guessing Unity, (which is
Compiz), is using the Compiz gnome compatibility plugin, which includes
shortcut key bindings (and command.)

Gnome shell, however, must have it's own shortcut key grabbing mechanism.

I don't have a Ubuntu system in front of me to test, but look in the
Gnome Settings Keyboard dialogue, and there is a tab there for
Shortcuts, including Screenshots. Maybe you can disable the gnome
built-in shortcut then create a new custom shortcut with the command
line of your choice?

	Might be, but they seem to use the same app, I believe. It all behaves
the same, including the same default fielname format. Just one prompts
for location, one doesn't

Got it. using gconf:
/apps/compiz-1/plugins/gnomecompat/screen0/options/command_screenshot
change the key from 'gnome-screenshot' to 'gnome-screenshot -i'.

Who knew...

	I tried that, soft of, used --interactive, which should still work, but
didn't.
	I'll try the -i instead.

	Than I can try to figure out how I got [ALT][Print Screen] kesy to not
work at all...

Sorry, forgot to ask what you have in:
/home/≤user>/.gconf/apps/compiz-1/plugins/gnomecompat/screen0/options/%gconf.xml?

Should look like:

It doesn't matter. This works for you because you are using Gnome
Classic, with effects, and therefore, Compiz is your Window manager.
Not the case for those trying to make Gnome Shell useful.

Oh man... now you've done it :-)
Yep. Just switched to GNOME Classic (2D no effects) and of course
without Compiz, the last doesn't work. The first setting:
$ gsettings set org.gnome.gnome-screenshot auto-save-directory
file:///home/≤user>/<directory>
does. Back to the drawing board...
