[Imap-protocol] so long, and thanks for all the fish!

I was laid off today. Unfortunately, I didn't get a change to push
imap-2007b out the door in release status, but the development tarball
there is pretty close to my final bits.

If you have support requests for UW imapd, please send them to the Alpine
development team at UW, alpine-contact <at> u.washington.edu.

It has been a privilege to work with all of you for the past 20 years.

Now that's the most insane thing I've heard in the past twenty years.

Does this mean UW Imap is going into a retirement phase?

Let me guess; a 20-year man but you didn't get the brass ring. ;(

Are they going to D/C these lists too or will they just let them
wither now that they've chopped off the head?

We wish you success where ever you direct your energies next. ;)

Thinking back to something you wrote in April 2000 you seem to have
finally reached that goal. Enjoy your life! I've so far never met anybody
who said: If I only had worked more........

Mark,

I can't believe a man of your ability would be laid off - the world is indeed a strange place. I'm sure I am one of
the many who would like to thank you for all your efforts over the years. We have been using WU IMAP for around
15 years although ironically we shall shortly be retiring our last server in favour of a dreaded exchange
server. People like yourself have made a real difference to the internet community. Good luck with
whatever you do next.

I would like to thank you for the leadership, inspiration, and
dedication you have given to IMAP and imapd over all these years.
And, no less, to the infinite patience and tireless support provided
to this community.

Having used the Sun and Windows ports of imapd for many years, I
can truly say that it is powerful, lightweight, fast, and nearly
trouble free. All of the things that modern software is supposed
to be, but more typically is not.

Your contributions are greatly appreciated and your presence (and
pithy quotes) will be missed. All the best to you in the future.

That's unfortunate. Getting laid off is never fun...Best of luck
in landing, pleasantly, on your feet, whatever you decide to do...

Re: [Imap-protocol] so long, and thanks for all the fish!

I'm extremely sorry to hear this, Mark.

Does/will this email address still work for you?

Do you have plans? Are you looking for something or have something?

You're an extremely talented engineer, and your IMAP fame has got to
be a major asset for you.

I'm honestly very surprised that UW wouldn't want to keep you on.
