multimedia attachments not working since upgrade

I upgraded emacs to :

	GNU Emacs 23.0.60.1 (i486-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.12.0) of 2008-03-07 on iridium, modified by Debian

on my ubuntu 7.10 over the weekend.

Today, trying to send an email with an attachment using:

      ^C <return> i 

(mh-compose-insertion) gives me the following error
