If you check-out John Simpsons site : http://qmail.jms1.net/ then you'll
see he's recommending dovecot as a replacement for courier.

I've installed it on Debian Lenny (Alpha release) & it's working like a
beauty.

Hello,

Courier has since dropped the auth module for vchkpw so it will not work. Dovecot would be the best choice.
