last night, as you all know, was opening nite of the rerelease of STAR WARS. we bought our tickets monday for the 8:50 pm show last night, which sold out on tuesday! we arrived about 8:10, figuring it would be plenty early. about 800 people were already in line for our show. !!! anyway, here's a rundown... THE SPACE- was the brand-spanking-new AMC lenox 24-theatre complex, just up the street from where i live. this place is crazy, the most off-the-hook theatre i have ever stepped foot in. this was only the second time i'd been there. the main concession stand has about 40 ppl working at it and SELF-SERVE butter!! this rules. the main screens are nearly 3 stories tall and curved like an IMAX screen. the theatres have stadium seating (you can't see the ppl in the row in front of you or the row behind you, at all), and the seats go all the way up to the top of your head. plus they are really comfortable, there is plently of legroom (if someone gets up and has to walk past everyone it's not as big of a deal), and the armrests are retractable so you can snuggle with your date :) definitely my favorite place to experience a movie, and only 3.75 for student tix! THE SOUND- blew me away. six-track THX and sony dynamic digital sound (i think...the theatres all have SDDS here but i didn't see the little thing before the movie that said "presented in SDDS" so maybe not). but they cleaned up the original soundtrack A LOT. when R2-D2 was bleeping and blooping you could hear different bleeps and bloops coming from different speakers. it was great. OVERALL PRESENTATION- after getting everyone seated (the theater is huge), before the lights went down, 5 people in full-on storm trooper costumes entered the theater from the top-rear and circled the crowd. everyone was cheering, then they were booing, since they realized shouldn't be cheering(Continue reading)
