Hi Folks, I have a family member (with her young children) returning to NZ and they are wishing to get an ADSL service for their new House. I have had ADSL myself for 6+ years, however as I have been employed in the NZ Networking industry for 30+ years, my implementation is very specific to my needs, and now I have been asked to provide a recommendation for quite a different set of requirements - 1. Anything that needs Windows or USB is OUT, this is a MAC OS X only family. 2. A recommendation for an ISP that is happy to support MAC (or non-Windows) users, who are at a fairly low level of computing knowledge. No-one in the house is computer literate past the most basic knowledge. Simplicity is key here. 3. A recommendation for an ADSL Router with Ethernet connectivity and with good Web management (and doesn't REQUIRE Windows). 4. I have confirmed that they can simply plug their MAC into my Etherswitch and they have Internet access via my ADSL connection, so Networking should be fine as long as the Router has an active DHCP server. 5. This will be a (wired) Ethernet only environment, there is and should be no Wireless capability in any device. 6. Some form of Web Site filtering within the Router would be desirable, but not essential. So far a Dynalink RTS 1335 looks like a starter (4 Ethernet ports should be plenty), but I would prefer comments from people who have actually USED this or similar devices. Yes, price is important (but does not have the final say).(Continue reading)
