On the face of it, this would seem to be a good idea.  Things could
possibly heat up a bit again when more providers start going the naked
route.  (Though as has already been pointed out, this can probably be
addressed in a web forum.)

happy to host the list on their own mailman set-up.

Only if you run it on Majordomo and refuse to accept that things can be 
improved when people suggest that there may be problems with the way 
majordomo works ;-)

On a more serious note tho, the list archives - we really should 
preserve those, I mean, how else are people going to find out what an 
a** I am :-) - Craigs DSL website seems to logical place for those is 
Craig is willing.
