Slots not showing anything

I'm running Ubuntu Dapper, with home made version of
their '0.3.7-2ubuntu1' valknut package (basically I
just added the patches from http://www.dcs.warwick.ac.uk/~csucda/patches/.

I (now) have three uploaders (people that download FROM me) connected, but
they aren't shown in the 'Slots' tab. However, the status line at the bottom
far right shows '3/5' so is this a bug?

No - the slots tabe shows slots you have granted, not slots currently in
use.  These should be on the uploads/downloads tab.
