access to directory starting with a dot

Hi,

I'm using mathopd as web server. I had installed
http://www.0x743.com/vee for my blog.

vee is using directory .vee for storing files and I can't access this
URL http://blog.navratil.cz/.vee/1194472536.2007-11-07T22:55:13.html
(with dot in directory name)

I created a copy without dot, and that URL is working fine
http://blog.navratil.cz/vee/1194472536.2007-11-07T22:55:13.html

Is this specific to mathopd? Can I adjust config for allowing use of
dot in directory name?

PS: I can adjust vee to use other directory name, but I like to
understand this behaviour.

Thank you,
Jiri

It's a by-design behaviour; it hides files like .htpasswd, which might contain
sensitive information, in keeping with the UNIX ". means hidden" tradition.
You can change this behaviour using the AllowDotfiles configuration option.

Cheers,

Allwyn.
