[Check_mk (english)] Defining Trending parameter Values...

So i'll keep it short, i have a bunch of hosts which fall into both the "REG" *and* "GEN" tags, and they will trigger trending alerts alot, by design. So i'm trying to do the following to increase the default values (But not for hosts which meet only one tag match):

check_parameters = [
        # Increase Disk Space trending on /app for all Reg
        # Gen hosts, to be 1GB warn, 2GB crit (per 48hrs)
        ( (1024, 2048), [ "REG", "GEN" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_/app", "trend_mb" ]),
        # Increase Disk Space trending of / for the same to 500Meg Warn, 1G Crit.
        ( (500, 1024), [ "REG", "GEN" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_/", "trend_mb" ]),
        # Increase Disk Space Trending percentage to 10w 15c for the same
        ( (10, 15), [ "REG", "GEN" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_/", "trend_perc" ]),
]

But this doesn't seem to be working...

Also, how would i go about doing this for "All GEN+REG hosts, but minus DB hosts?"

ie.
        ( (1024, 2048), [ "REG", "GEN", "!DB" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_/app", "trend_mb" ]),
??

Thanks in advance! Have really appreciated some of the neat tips in these mails so far :)
Darren.

Darren,

    Your syntax looks right to me.    Does cmk –list-tag REG GEN show the proper hosts?

Re: [Check_mk (english)] Defining Trending parameter Values...

Yeah, "cmk --list-tags GEN REG" gives a list of about 9 hosts. Including localhost curiously enough... will look at that later! lol

<at> Arnold; i thought the same thing initially, but i wasn't sure how check_mk would differentiate between the "Remaining Disk Space" check, the "Trends in MB" (trend_mb) check and the "Trend in Percentage" (trend_perc) check? I wouldn't have though that specifying just "fs_/app" would be enough to distinguish it?

In case it's key to the solution; i have also modified main.mk to have:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
filesystem_default_levels = {
   "trend_range"    : 48,        # hours
   "trend_mb"       : (200, 400),  # MB of change during trend_range
   "trend_perc"     : (5, 10),    # Percent change during trend_range
}
# OTHER POSSIBLE OPTIONS:
#   "levels"         : (80, 90),  # levels in percent
#   "magic"          : 0.8,       # magic factor
#   "magic_normsize" : 20,        # normsize in GB
#   "levels_low"     : (50, 60),  # magic never lowers levels below this (percent)
#   "trend_timeleft" : (72, 48),  # run time left in hours until full
#   "trend_perfdata" : False      # no performance data for trends
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Would changing these values overwrite the custom values specified in the hosts config?

Darren.

Re: [Check_mk (english)] Defining Trending parameter Values...

Hi again! So... digging up a unresolved issue from a few weeks back;
I'm trying to set the disk trending values to be different from the defaults for a specific group of hosts.

In the "hosts-regression.mk" file, i have (Aside from a list of hosts with the REG and GEN tags...):
------------------------------
check_parameters = [
        # Increase Disk Space trending alerts on /app for all Regression
        # Hosts, to be 1GB warn, 2GB crit (per 48hrs)
        ( (1024, 2048), [ "REG", "GEN", "!DB" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_/app", ".*trend_mb.*" ]),
        # Increase Disk Space trending of / for the same.
        ( (500, 1024), [ "REG", "GEN", "!DB" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_/", ".*trend_mb.*" ]),
        # Increase Disk Space Trending percentage to 10w 15c for the same
        ( (10, 15), [ "REG", "GEN", "!DB" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_/", "trend_perc" ]),
]
------------------------------

A snippet from the Check_MK debug log shows:
------------------------------
Invalid output from plugin or error in check:
  Check_MK Version: 1.1.10p3
  Date:             2011-25-08 12:03:37
  Host:             regserver02
  Service:          fs_/boot
  Check type:       df
  Item:             '/boot'
  Parameters:       {'trend_mb': (400, 750), 'trend_perc': (10, 15), 'trend_range': 48}
  Traceback (most recent call last):
        File "/usr/share/check_mk/modules/check_mk_base.py", line 795, in do_all_checks_on_host
          result = check_funktion(item, params, info)
        File "/usr/share/check_mk/checks/df", line 82, in check_df
          return df_check_filesystem(g_hostname, mountpoint, size_mb, avail_mb, params)
        File "/usr/share/check_mk/checks/df.include", line 126, in df_check_filesystem
          levels = get_filesystem_levels(g_hostname, mountpoint, size_gb, params)
        File "/usr/share/check_mk/checks/df.include", line 87, in get_filesystem_levels
          warn, crit = levels["levels"]
      KeyError: 'levels'
------------------------------

Now... there's a few things wrong here. One is that it doesn't work (Defaults to the values set in main.mk), and also, it's attempting the parameter changes on disk devices which i haven't sepcified, as well as the ones that i have ( in this instance, fs_/boot - but only / and /app are defined.) - I'm definately not doing this right!

Does anyone have any ideas on this one? I'm a bit stumped!

Thanks in advance,
Darren.

Re: [Check_mk (english)] Defining Trending parameter Values...

Hi,

we have something similar working here.
Not exact the same, but works.

/etc/check_mk/main.mk

filesystem_default_levels = {
    "levels"         : (90, 95),  # levels in percent
    "magic"          : 0.8,       # magic factor
    "levels_low"     : (50, 60),  # magic never lowers levels below this
    "trend_range"    : 48,        # hours
    "trend_mb"       : (400, 800),  # MB of change during trend_range
    "trend_perc"     : (5, 10),    # Percent change during trend_range
    "trend_timeleft" : (72, 48),  # run time left in hours until full
}

And then:
check_parameters = [
    ## Complex parameters in dictionary form
    ( {"levels":(85,95), "trend_range":48, "trend_mb":(2000,4000)},
      [ "hostgroup1" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_" ]),
    ( {"levels":(85,95), "trend_range":48, "trend_mb":(1000,2000)},
      [ "hostgroup2" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_" ]),
]

Timo

Re: [Check_mk (english)] Defining Trending parameter Values...

Actually; ignore that, have found the answer staring me in the face the whole time.

1. Missing the "$" off the end of the "fs_/" segment
2. It should look more like this :

check_parameters = [
# Complex parameters in dictionary form ( "trend_mb":(500,1024), "trend_perc":(10,15)}, [ "REG", "GEN", "!DB" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_/$" ]),
]

Yay!! RTFM fail. http://mathias-kettner.de/checkmk_check_df.html

Thanks anyway!

So i'll keep it short, i have a bunch of hosts which fall into both the "REG" *and* "GEN" tags, and they will trigger trending alerts alot, by design. So i'm trying to do the following to increase the default values (But not for hosts which meet only one tag match):

check_parameters = [
        ( (500, 1024), [ "REG", "GEN" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_/", "trend_mb" ]),
        # Increase Disk Space Trending percentage to 10w 15c for the same
        ( (10, 15), [ "REG", "GEN" ], ALL_HOSTS, [ "fs_/", "trend_perc" ]),
]

Darren.
