Re: SNMPv2-MIB::sysUpTime No Such Instance currently exists at this OID

I'm not familiar with ARM, but I have some experience cross-compiling the net-snmp agent. First off, try a basic "configuration" test. The idea is to NOT cross compile and just compile the net-snmp agent to your local system. See if you can get the agent to run/work as you expect it, based on your configuration files. If you can't, that means it's a configuration problem of some sort, and you'll be more likely to get some help on the matter.

If you can, then, it looks like some kind of platform-specific issue and I don't have any familiarity to help with that.

Re: SNMPv2-MIB::sysUpTime No Such Instance currently exists at this OID

Hello Abraham and thank you for your reply!
I have compiled snmpd for my i686 host and I get same problem - daemon
get request and client don't get answer.
I have two warning in config.log:
configure:8234: WARNING: using cross tools not prefixed with host triplet
configure:49413: WARNING: Can't check sysctl, manually define
NETSNMP_CAN_USE_SYSCTL if platform support available
I have added --with-cflags="-DNETSNMP_CAN_USE_SYSCTL" in my configure
options for solve warnings.

P.S. Strange, but I don't get message from maillist.

Re: SNMPv2-MIB::sysUpTime No Such Instance currently exists at this OID

I have compiled snmpd for my i686 host and I get same problem - daemon
get request and client don't get answer.

Well, at least we are getting somewhere now! Can you tell us the exact command you use to compile net-snmp on your i686 host? The typical commands most people follow are,

./configure
make
make install (optionally)

What are you doing different from this ? Also, we need to know what kind of system you are on. Working from an Ubuntu-linux system, things usually "just work" for me.

After running the first "make", you can go into the /agent directory and run the executable, "snmpd" directly. (Make sure that you are running the local executable and NOT the snmpd agent that might be installed on your system!).

I have two warning in config.log:
configure:8234: WARNING: using cross tools not prefixed with host triplet
configure:49413: WARNING: Can't check sysctl, manually define
NETSNMP_CAN_USE_SYSCTL if platform support available
I have added --with-cflags="-DNETSNMP_CAN_USE_SYSCTL" in my configure
options for solve warnings.

I'm not sure what this is, but it doesn't seem to appear on my Ubuntu 10.10 box.

Curious,
Abraham V.

Abraham, I have used this options:
./configure
--prefix=/home/kirill/MVK-IP/contribs/net-snmp-5.6/install/i686
--disable-manuals --disable-ipv6 --with-sys-contact="user <at> company.ru"

--enable-reentrant
--with-out-mib-modules="mibII/mta_sendmail,ipfwchains/ipfwchains"
--enable-mini-agent --disable-shared --enable-static --enable-debugging

My work system:
$ cat /etc/debian_version
5.0.5
$ uname -a
Linux kirill 2.6.32-5-686 #1 SMP Tue Jun 1 04:59:47 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
Also I have some package from Debian Testing.

Also I have tried default way:
./configure --prefix=/home/kirill/MVK-IP/contribs/net-snmp-5.6/install/i686
make

I solve my problem with version 5.5. For cross-compiling I have used
this option:
./configure --prefix=/home/kirill/MVK-IP/contribs/net-snmp-5.5/arm
--host=arm-v5t-linux --target=arm-v5t-linux --build=i686

--enable-mini-agent --disable-shared --enable-static --enable-debugging
--with-cflags="-DNETSNMP_CAN_USE_SYSCTL"

On snmpd5.5 I get answer:
$ snmpget -v 2c -c public 192.168.10.253 .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.4.0
iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.4.0 = STRING: "user <at> test.com"

Also I get full log for 5.5 and 5.6 versions:
snmpd -c /etc/snmpd.conf -Le -M/root/mib -d -q -V 2>/var/snmp6.log 1>&2

Please see log in the attache (snmp5.log.gz (20 kB), snmp6.log.gz (17 kB))

I solve my problem with version 5.5.

I'm still more of a "user" than an active "developer", so I really can't make much sense with the log files. But, if you are building net-snmp to work with some product, and it works with 5.5, why not stick with that? At least until the latest 5.6.1 is out. (Or you could try out the 5.6.1 pre-release as well).

Not sure if there still is a problem,
Abraham V.

I downloaded 5.6 from

On http://www.net-snmp.org/nightly/tarballs/ I see only old version.

I hope you've heard of the expression "Latest version is not always the best" ?  Not to deny the Good Work the coders have put into net-snmp, but if you are incorporating net-snmp into a product, I would recommend you stick with a version that works.

That said, I was talking about the PRE-release version in my earlier mail. i.e. NOT fully ready for release. If you are still inclined to experiment here is the link,

http://sourceforge.net/projects/net-snmp/files/net-snmp/5.6.1-pre-releases/

Please note, if face any technical issues with this build, you need to send your mails to the net-snmp-coders group.

Wondering why you need a higher version,

I don't understand you. What do you mean by "make full picture" ? As far as I know, the net-snmp suite does not have a picture/image application bundled in.
