Has anyone else already solved the protobuf build problem on Ubuntu?

Despite installing all of the protobuf* packages, I still get failures compiling the bundle.pb-c.c source file (excess elements in struct initializer).  Before delving too deeply into it, the protobuf changes appear to have been added around 2012-01-09 but I don’t see any other updates to the build/install pages to match.
