There is a delay of several months between the time that archive.org
crawls a site and the time that it appears in the Wayback machine. So
it is likely that most of Patry's posts will eventually be available
this way.

Re: End of the Patry Copyright Blog

Despite its (semi-)availability on the wayback machine, I'm a bit shocked that he deleted his archives! It's one thing to stop blogging, but another to delete your entire history of doing so. In the field of law and technology scholarship we often rely on sources like these (i.e. we dealt with a lot of citations to blog posts on the Journal of Law and Technology), and the potential for them to disappear like that is rather haunting...

He is considering re-posting the archives, according to a comment he
left on his last post. He also explains his rationale for removing
the archives:

William Patry said...

"[...] I will think about the archive point; I deleted prior posts
because leaving them up meant subjecting myself to the same
misunderstandings that led me to close the blog. And even for this
last post, one attracts trolls. [...]"

Re: End of the Patry Copyright Blog

One can close comments to avoid trolls. I don't agree with his decision, and I don't think we'll necessarily always be able to rely on archive.org to back the internet up. We call this the "memory hole" in JZ's Cyberlaw course.

Note also that in the comments Crosbie Fitch admits to being one of the 'crazies' that Patry partially credits for helping him make this decision.

What is this, pick on Crosbie month?

He was told in not so many words to get the fuck off this list, and
people still can't leave him alone?

He has an opinion that differs from many of ours, but then I'm sure
that could be said of all of us. Singling one person out is lame.

Off list because CF doesn't deserve more hassling.

Indeed -- but also had the ability to drive threads into the ground. We weren't going to censor him, he chose to censor himself.

Patry has revived the old posts on his blog. I'm not sure that all of
them are there, but the majority seem to be. Here's his August 8 post
explaining his decision to revive the posts:

Glad that he was persuaded to so do! I've asked him for a copy of the archive as well and will send it to the list when I get it.
