National Summit Feedback

I think in terms of yearly events it's important to exchange feedback on our experiences to help the event improve over time. With that in mind, here's my feedback on the Free Culture Summit this year. A huge thanks to all those who helped to make the National Summit happen. I'm really glad I made the leap (over the border) to come out. I've yet to meet any hardcore Free Culture activists on campus at Carleton University so it was really inspiring to meet you all and see the good work you've done over the last couple of years. It's given me the inspiration to really make Free Culture Carleton a thriving club (right now it's pretty inactive). What a wonderful venue you picked for the event. Luckily for me, it wasn't too far away. But on second thought, it's a conference for the U.S. of A. At least one person came all the way from California! A computer algorithm we might be able to make use of : given n participants each in their own locations, find the location that would minimize the total travel distance of all participants (sounds NP hard :-P). I was really impressed particularly by the aesthetics of campus. I got on campus early so I had time to meander around. Wonderful plants ! Wonderful buildings ! And of course, wonderful people ! I liked how there was a really good mix of prominent and casual speakers. In one moment we have Larry up on the podium, and in another, we have a students saying "hey, this program is cool, look what I can do". In that way we get the inspiration from accomplished people to strive for excellence, but also the encouragement to just get out even if you think that you're not worthy of being a presenter.
