Hi,
At present I am using in Ubuntu 7.10 and i would like to upgrade to Ubuntu

So I downloaded Alternate CD iso of Ubuntu 8.04 and then I burned them in
the CD.

After burning the CD, I list the the files as below
----------------------
verman <at> verman-desktop:/media/cdrom$ ls -l

I found a shell script file cdromupgrade and tried to excute the file and
found errors as below.

If you think the script is buggy then please file a bug report with
Ubuntu.

I did an online upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 (Night Unlimited Broadband
plan helps). Under 7.10 I updated all the packages installed in my
system. The update manager has an option to upgrade to 8.10. Clicking
on the "upgrade" button will initiate download of relevant packages.
In my case, the first attempt got botched; the second attempt was
successful. My system is now Ubuntu 8.10.

Use this:
    gksu "sh /media/cdrom/cdromupgrade"

It worked for me.

I think the instructions on the web site are probably misleading.
Perhaps it is necessary for you to boot from the cdrom to follow
them.

Normally one should not need to boot from a CD to upgrade an existing
GNU/Linux installation (at least Debian/Ubuntu). As Arun Khan has
pointed out you can just use the upgrade option for the update tool.

However, if you have taken the trouble to download and burn the CD then
you may want to use this approach. Boot from the CD and then follow
the instructions on the web site.

Regards,

Kapil.
