Re: [MLUG] Postgres Authentication On Fedora 7 - AMD64

Using version 8.2:

Server configuration parameters virtual_host and tcpip_socket have been
replaced with a more general parameter listen_addresses. Also, the
server now listens on localhost by default, which eliminates the need
for the -i postmaster switch in many scenarios.

.....that answers that part!

Thanks

Piers

Re: [MLUG] Postgres Authentication On Fedora 7 - AMD64

Piers,

http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.2/interactive/auth-pg-hba-conf.html

* Explains the hba.conf file which Postgres uses to authenticate.

http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.2/interactive/runtime-config-connection.html#GUC-LISTEN-ADDRESSES

* Discusses how to get Postgres to listen on a TCP/IP socket (although I
note that you've already worked that out; this is just so that someone
finding this on a search engine doesn't need to do two lookups)

Here's what the first link indicates as a template:

   host database user CIDR-address auth-method [auth-option]

...

   host all all 0.0.0.0/0 password
...

You'll need to get Postgresql to re-read its config (given you probably
have no users of it at the moment, you could just evilly restart it).

That's not really "good" advice, you probably want:

* http://linux.die.net/man/1/pg_ctl

Does anyone have a copy of Red Hat 5 Enterprise and/or Standard version on media or online???

Guys,

I was wondering if anyone had a copy of the Red Hat Linux 5 Enterprise
and/or Standard Version on media or online that I could borrow/copy.

I want to see if it is worth upgrading our servers to at the moment.

RE: Does anyone have a copy of Red Hat 5 Enterprise and/or Standardversion on media or online???

RHEL5 comes on 5 CDs which you can download from the RH site. It doesn't
take long to download.

You need to register for an installation key before you can install it
anyway. Which (if you're going for the free trial) takes a couple of days to
go through their systems. So even if you had a slow link you've got plenty
of time to download the media.

If you don't want to bother with the registration process. CentOS is the
same thing without the annoying installation keys & other Redhat trademarks.

Just call RedHat and they will give you a trial (I think you can
actually just apply for it online...)

If you have existing RedHat subscriptions you can just download the
RHEL5 ISOS from the RedHat Network site...
