Use of wikitex on non mediawiki websystems

I am using the old wikitex release on latexwiki.org (mediawiki) with 
some patches to get it working for me. See

Now I am interested to use such a system on a web forum (php based). 
Since wikitex was completely rewritten in the meantime I would like to 
know how it works, and where one would integrate the plugin structure 
for the web forum. The installation of mod_tex, which seems now to be 
the actual renderer, would be installed on the same server.
However I do not understand where the modifications have to be applied 
in mod_tex and how.

Any help appreciated.
