What exactly is Darwin?

Hello everyone!
Alright, from what I've gathered, it's an official open source clone of
MacOS X for x86... Am I right? If not, what is it? How can I download
it?  Thanks! ;)

Nope.

It is basically an externally hosted project that mirrors and extends
Apple's Darwin OS (and related open source projects). Darwin OS is
basically the kernel and POSIX user-land, in other words a subset of
what makes Mac OS X well... Mac OS X.

<http://opendarwin.org/en/downloads/>
