random firefox freezes in RC1

I used update manager to upgrade from PC-BSD 9.0 to the 9.1-RC1 image
and am now experiencing frequent freezes within firefox. Starting
firefox in safe mode doesn't seem to help, but while running it, I
noticed the following messages in the terminal window:

[506] firefox -safe-mode
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0".
/usr/pbi/firefox-amd64/lib/firefox/plugin-container: Undefined symbol
"XRE_InitChildProcess"
/usr/pbi/firefox-amd64/lib/firefox/plugin-container: Undefined symbol
"XRE_InitChildProcess"
/usr/pbi/firefox-amd64/lib/firefox/plugin-container: Undefined symbol
"XRE_InitChildProcess"
...

There appears to be some correlation between each XRE_InitChildProcess
message and clicking on a tab or scrolling in a window. These messages
repeat about a dozen times.

Eventually, firefox displays a "Unresponsive script" dialog box (a URL
ending with .js), but clicking the stop script button doesn't seem to
help the issue.

While all this is happening, the Midori browser doesn't have trouble
displaying the same pages choking firefox.

Re: random firefox freezes in RC1 : It does not happen on Linux Ubuntu

Hi Ken
I tested the new Firefox 15.0 and this crash issue does not happen on Ubuntu Linux.
So the issue is unfortunately related to PCBSD.

I am sorry.

Best regards,
Hans

It is likely related to the ongoing crash work in Firefox bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=774281 or any one of the 136 bugs related to that process https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=XRE_InitChildProcess.

This is the reason that the Firefox 15.0 PBI has been removed from the AppCafe. You should be able to revert to the older (and working) Firefox 14.x PBI tomorrow sometime (or the new Firefox-ESR PBI when that hits the AppCafe as well).
