weighing bikes

In 1994 I had just returned from a 3-week tour in Holland and Belgium. My
usual preference (unless it's dark or raining) is to take the long and rough
way into Boston from Logan airport - through industrial areas of East
Boston, Chelsea and Everett. It sort of feels appropriate after a tour.

I noticed a scrap metal dealer and asked if I could weigh the bike - 114
pounds. I usually travel heavy, but had taken my MTB this time because I
knew I would have lots of cobbles, some dirt, and the often roughly tiled
Dutch bike paths. I was also carrying about 3 kilos of aged Leyden cheese
with cumin I had bought at the airport to use up the last of my Dutch money.

a fairly accurate figure. Also, most farm stores have platform scales for
weighing all sort of things. Failing that. take it by your local WAL*MART
because most of them have a set of scales in the pharmacy department.
