Saab AC for 95/96 V4 models

Along with all the usual boxes of parts that came with the three barn find V4 96s here in Colorado I found a complete AC system.

It has a York compressor with all the bracketry and pulleys, the evaporator and hoses, etc, and a distribution chamber that mounts under the dash with 2 control dials at the left of the steering wheel with the squirrel cage blowers at the right. Says SAAB AC on the front.

These units were apparently port or dealer installed back in the day...........
Anyone out there interested in this system?

I might be interested, Tom. What might something like that be worth?

Tom,

I'm interested in the AC system...any idea on the value of this unit?  I suppose there's no way of knowing if it actually is still able to be put in working condition?

Thanks,
Matt

With a couple of folks (and possibly more) nominally interested in the unit, it may be time to put it on eBay. :-)

Re: Re: Saab AC for 95/96 V4 models

Ray and all ....... surprising to me, but there's at least 3 interested parties in TX, FL & KY ...... and if my objective were to get max $$ out of the opportunity, yes, I'd go ebay. But at this point in my life I enjoy sharing parts with little emphasis on the cash return. After all...... this is just a bonus from a car that was GIVEN to me.

I often get rewarded many times over when I give parts to other members on this list ;-) ........ so I'd rather do a quick and easy sale with enuf compensation for my time to pack up this stuff and ship it. Probably will take 3 boxes.

I li ke to keep prices low for our group so based on what people have offered so far I'll take bids off line  .......    at my personal email: Tom Nelson <tom10-+mvbHnN81+IJGwgDXS7ZQA@public.gmane.org> I'll email each of the 3 interested parties and reveal the minimum bid to them. They can look at the photos and bid accordingly ...... a one shot deal. I have no clue on whether any of this stuff works or is rebuildable.

The photos of the unit are posted in a new album "Nelson Saab V4 AC System" on this site........

Re: Saab AC for 95/96 V4 models

You folks that want the V4 A/C unit. You will need to install a larger radiator. The A/C unit on my 67 Monte V4
has a Sonett III radiator. The A/C unit was a dealer installed kit. The kit also included a steel timing gear
set . Many techs of the day didn't bother pulling the timing cover to install the new gear set.A company back
in the day made the kit for various cars,I think the name was Comfort Aire??
The York piston compressor is a very standard unit, but it uses alot of power. My car would slow down when it
engaged. My thought was to adapt a more modern swash plate compressor from a recent Ford.Better flow and
needs less power.

Re: Re: Saab AC for 95/96 V4 models

I guess I had some of those points in mind when I elected not to bid. Are there any aftermarket kits out there, with modern parts, that might work?

You folks that want the V4 A/C unit. You will need to install a larger radiator. The A/C unit on my 67 Monte V4 has a Sonett III radiator. The A/C unit was a dealer installed kit. The kit also included a steel timing gear set . Many techs of the day didn't bother pulling the timing cover to install the new gear set.A company back in the day made the kit for various cars,I think the name was Comfort Aire??
The York piston compressor is a very standard unit, but it uses alot of power. My car would slow down when it engaged. My thought was to adapt a more modern swash plate compressor from a recent Ford.Better flow and needs less power.

Re: Saab AC for 95/96 V4 models

I reactivated the AC in my Sonett which used a smaller micro York compressor, and that still was a power
robber. With the modern compressor it takes very little power and its easy to do with this converter plate.

http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/air-conditioning/york-compressor-adapter-plate-universal-mount-177.php

Then just bolt in a new compressor

Cheers

Tom,
I would like to purchase a complete AC system. Let me know how much if it
is not too late.

Along with all the usual boxes of parts that came with the three barn find
V4 96s here in Colorado I found a complete AC system.

It has a York compressor with all the bracketry and pulleys, the evaporator
and hoses, etc, and a distribution chamber that mounts under the dash with 2
control dials at the left of the steering wheel with the squirrel cage
blowers at the right. Says SAAB AC on the front.

These units were apparently port or dealer installed back in the
day...........

Anyone out there interested in this system?
