People trying to use Wikipedia just to find images deserve to not find 
any. The purpose of having them on your hard disk is that you can upload 
them when a relevant article is written. The point of having "personal 
galleries" is essentially the same, but more convenient because then the 
image is already uploaded, and anyone can add it to a relevant article 
(and remove it from the gallery).
