Upcoming hackathon for experts AND newbies: Washington, DC, USA July 10-11

This is a reminder that you're invited to the pre-Wikimania hackathon,
10-11 July in Washington, DC, USA:

https://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hackathon

In order to come, you have to register for the Wikimania conference:

https://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Registration

(Unfortunately, the period for requesting scholarships is now over.)

At the hackathon, we'll have trainings and projects for novices, and we
welcome creators of all Wikimedia technologies -- MediaWiki, gadgets,
bots, mobile apps, you name it -- to hack on stuff together and teach
each other.

Hope to see you!

I'm already registered for the conference, so this doesn't personally affect
me, but why restrict it to those that registered for the conference?

If any local DC hackers show up, because they heard from a friend that the
hackathon was going on, would we really turn them away?

Thank you,

Shhh, don't tell anybody... In Haifa we had some doubts about it, and
eventually we required registration for the hackathon days, but not
payment if you only come to them (and you would still get pizza). As
far as I recall (it's all very hazy now) it was a good decision - at
least one new productive hacker joined us thanks to this liberal
arrangement.

It's up to the DC organizers to decide, of course.

Good question. Asheesh is investigating this issue. Thanks for
bringing it up.

I haven't made friends with the Wikimania DC local organizing team yet,
but this question (and other questions I have) are forcing me to.

Which is good. (-:

So I'll get back to y'all on this soonish!
