End of an era - F500 mailing list

Now that the F500 community has pretty much comfortably settled in it's new
home - the eformulacarnews.com forums, the old f500.org mailing list is
nearly silent. Last moth 98% of the posts were just spam (which of course
got filtered fro the list - I was the only one who had to wade though them
all).

Also, as most of you know the f500.org site has been badly broken for some
time now. It was attacked by hackers a few months ago and I've never really
had the time to fix everything. On top of it all, the server that hosts
f500.org is getting pretty old and really needs to be retired or replaced.

So, with a bit of sadness I need to announce the end of the F500 mailing
list. The list will go silent sometime in the next couple weeks. The website
will be rehosted on a shared server, but in a considerably trimmed down
form. Since there has been very, very little contributed content over the
years, and I no longer have the time to author content myself, it makes
little sense to keep maintaining news, product reviews, etc. Classifieds are
handled by the forums now, so they will be gone as well. I will get the
photo gallery back online on the new server. The server transition will take
few weeks.

I will retain the F500.org Mailing List Archives (and actually fix them so
they are searchable again) on the new site.

I do want to thank all the people who have made the f500 mailing list a fun
place to hang out. I've enjoyed hosting it and do feel a bit sad to pull the
plug. But the end of and era also signals the beginning of a new era, and I
know that Rob Howden and his team at eformulacarnews.com will do a great job
continuing to support the F500 community.

Through your efforts in hosting F500.org you have brought the class into the
21st Century. Without the forum of the e-mailing list and all the other
efforts you have put forth I doubt the class would have survived to this

RE: End of an era - F500 mailing list

HeHe...

Yeah he is about +70 lbs lighter then me.

We'll be running it with ProAuto Sports (PASA, not SCCA). The same
group that we run his 125 shifter with so he'll do double duty
running the F500 and the Kart. We'll also let fellow F500 list
member Benn Herr's son, William, try the F500. Won't be running the
F500 competitively as it would be the only F500 out there running
with the Formula First-like Vee's and the spec-DOT tired Fords that
run with PASA. I think the boys will like to try a "full-size" car
even it if is not as fast as their current karts.

The son turns 16 in April so might have to put him through the SCCA
school in October.

Eric,
Thanks a bunch for your hard work and dedication to our family. I bought
my F440 off of an ad listed on F500. Without the list, I may never have
found a car to buy and I would be stuck with one of those dreaded solo
vees! I will miss the old list.

Eric,
I think loosing the F500 Mailing List is a case where progress is not an
improvement. Sure the eformulacarnews.com forums are well organized and
easy to use once you get there, but it takes too much effort to march
through the hoops to get there and see what's going on. I think many of us
more passive members of the F500 community will lose touch with the everyday
communication. I have already missed your list server during the past year
and don't feel I'll ever be as connected again, just because I'm too
busy/lazy to get on the forum regularly.

Good luck and thank you for all the hard work over the years.

Eric,

I can honestly say that without this email list, I would not have an
F500 sitting in my garage today. Thank you so much for your efforts.

For all those who prefer a mail list to a forum, a while back I set up
an F500 group on Yahoo Groups just to reserve the name. If you would
like to join go to
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/f500/?yguid=139169274 and join
the group. Since I manage a couple of groups for work, I am on the
Yahoo site at least every weekday and it won't add anything to speak
of to my workload.

type of magazine. At that time, I didn't know what a F.B.I. was, but
with the aid of Eric's site, I soon became very enthused, and had learned
quite a lot before I went to see the car. Thanks again, Eric. If I

Re: End of an era - F500 mailing list

John, I was wondering too...and just about to bite by asking the question.
I'll miss this email list as well. I guess I'm old school...or just
lazy....I like it when mail comes to me instead of me having to search
lists...if I remember.
Thanks Eric.

Fwd: End of an era - F500 mailing list

from an outsider,

I was outside of the regions where f500 is well known I loved the idea of the 500.? I still own 2 which need a good
home. I am loosing my space to turn my garage into a studio and my wife tells me I can take them home.? My tv show
is finally taking off Grass roots racing(find out more here,?www.speedzonelouisiana.blogspot.com)
where the focus is the average racer with no money and does what they love.? I am loosing a valuable resource
and hate to see it go.? for us computer challenged people the list was very valuable. best wishes? #26 Rory White?

Re: End of an era - F500 mailing list

I've been a member of this list literally since day one (or maybe day two).
Your service provided the "glue" to bind us together, broker car sales,
publish race event logistics, host debates, and, yes, even serve to publish
a few eulogies.

How can you thank someone for not charging for such a service as this?

"Thank you" is all I have, Eric but, it is felt from the heart.

Good luck, sir.

Re: End of an era - F500 mailing list

Yeah...what they all wrote! It's hard to add to the outpouring of
sincere appreciation from the F500 community. Your list has been an
invaluable communication tool, not only technically and socially
informative, but often exciting and entertaining as well. I too prefer
it over the forums where you have to dig and have saved many threads
over the years that I often refer back to.

Eric, please accept my gratitude!

Re: End of an era - F500 mailing list

Mostly a lurker but followed the list as I often crewed and wrenched on a
friend's F500. You provided a wonderful resource for myself and others.
  ...THANK YOU...

Re: End of an era - F500 mailing list

Eric, thanks for your efforts. I have been caring for very sick wife who
died of cancer mid-December of last year.
I still managed to monitor the F-500 web site a couple of times a week. I
will miss it !
