Sorry for the downtime. The wiki is causing some issues. The site was stable during the day, so i thought i had fixed the problem, but then it hang again just after i went to bed.

Maybe we shouldnt run the entire site, eXide and all demos from the same eXist instance, because users could do nasty things. It is a good test though.

I agree that it is a good test, however if a user can do something nasty and bring the database down on the public site this is problematic in itself. Even if its just running a endless query. Obviously I don't know the details of what caused the system to hang today, but IMHO this ither needs to be prevented or the database should handle it better (I understand this is probably not trivial).

Recently, I sent some people to the site telling them the new version of eXist was much more stable than the previous, and they should check it out again.

But then the site was hanging....somewhat ironic.

I like the idea of having exist-db run stable branch, and having something like dev.exist-db.com or demo.exist-db.com run latest development.

Just a thought.

It possible to setup watchdog that can minimise down time to ~5-10 mins. And split it.

The wiki invites users to test and modify queries. This is something
you would never allow on a production database. But I'd like to see if
we can get the system safe enough to catch any issues. I already found
a few bugs this way.

I just committed a few fixes to the XQueryServlet to prevent users
from executing long running queries via eXide. Let's see if it helps.

The wiki invites users to test and modify queries. This is something
you would never allow on a production database. But I'd like to see if
we can get the system safe enough to catch any issues. I already found
a few bugs this way.

Understood, and I do see the value here.

I just committed a few fixes to the XQueryServlet to prevent users
from executing long running queries via eXide. Let's see if it helps.
Cool.

Does eXide allow the guest user to write to the database? It seems that any operation that is not a write operation should be non blocking.
